There are sayings in Taiwan: Don’t trust a liar’s promise, if his/her words can be heard then dog-shit is eatable. Don’t rely on no enemy come but rely on I am ready for it; don’t assume it no attack but depend on I am not attackable.
The M503 route was agreed by China and Taiwan in 2015 only southbound flight and the opening of three feeder routes from Dongshan, Fuzhou and Xiamen labeled W121, W122 and W123 respectively, are subject to the agreement after consultation with Taiwan. But, China reneged on the 2015 route agreement and unilaterally activated its northbound and all three W’s aviation routes on January 4. AIT spokeswoman Sonia Urbom said “We are concerned about report that Beijing has modified the use of civil aviation routes in the Taiwan Strait without consultation with Taiwan authorities.” The question is “Has China ever kept its promises?”
The Seventeen Point Agreement for the peaceful Liberation of Tibet was signed and sealed in Beijing on May 23, 1951, but on March 10, 1959, the PRC government in name of suppressing riot tore up the Seventeen Agreement. On July 1, 1997, Hong Kong people were promised to live under the democratic systems at least for fifty years, racing horse as usual, dancing party as usual but that promise was voided in only after twenty years gone by. KMT members and Ma Ying-jeou (馬英九) were so proud to brag the agreement they achieved in 2015 with PRC on the M503 route, but now China has unilaterally activated the four aviation routes without consultation with Taiwan, it wasvoided already.
In addition to the launch of aviation routes close to the strait median, China also manipulated their undercover spies scattered around Taiwan, associatedwith guys such as the New Party spokesman Wang Pingchung (王炳忠), director Hou Hanting(侯漢廷)and member Lin Mincheng (林明正) to make noises inside Taiwan, dispatched their aircraft carrier Liaoning to sail through the strait,lured with high salary to variety senior professionals, from the air, the oceanand inland Taiwan, China just step by step follows Sun Wu Art of War planningto Trojan massacre in Taiwan whenever time is ready for them.
President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) tweeted on January 4 said “Cross-strait stability is impt to regional stability. Recent unilateral actions by China – including M503 flight route &increased military exercises – are destabilizing & should be avoided. Taiwan will continue to safeguard the status quo. We call on all parties to do the same.”
Can Tsai’s tweet effectively stop China’s greedy dream of taking over Taiwan or at least call its attention? Is it tough enough? I am afraid not. As a matter of fact, this is a critical moment that Taiwanese face life or death of their future, whether to live in the democratic system enjoying freedom of speech, or under the communist system without any freedom. We need to face it seriously. Let’s take Israel as example, how can Israelis survive while they are surrounded by enemies around? People’s wills matter once every national commits to defend the country then the country will survive. It calls the underdog win, an army burning with righteous indignation is sure to win.
So, Tsai as the president of the governing authorities must clearly inform all nationals that we are fighting for the security of Taiwan, not fighting for ROC to compete with PRC on the leadership of China, for the future of all Taiwanese who are looking to live in the democratic system. We must let our allies US, Japan and free world know we are defending democracy and surely we need their helps in case of China invade Taiwan.
China is taking advantage of the turmoil in Korean peninsula it tied up the US’s focus and military powers, has no time to successfully help Taiwan against China’s invasion. However, China totally miscalculated how seriously theUS has committed to defense Taiwan, it is clearly stated in the Taiwan RelationAct “any effort to determine the futureof Taiwan by other than peaceful means, including by boycotts or embargoes, a threat to the peace and security of the Western Pacific area and of graveconcern to the United States;” also Japan has included Taiwan within its collective self-defense boundary. Of course, Taiwan will not just count on our allies the US and Japan but the commitment of all Taiwanese around the world to defense Taiwan.
It is time for Taiwan to fundamentally get rid of the threat from China, inform the world that Taiwan is not part of China and Taiwan is not ROC, Taiwan is totally unrelated to China. Taiwan should be consistently to define its compatriots are the worldwide Taiwanese not those oversea Chinese served by OCAC, for they endorse M503 and favor Taiwan be unified by China. China should only be considered as one of the bad neighbor in the international community not the motherland of Taiwan.
To defend the security of Taiwan is everyone Taiwanese’s responsibility. Let’s stand up to voice out and fight against the irresponsibleroute M503.
