I am the former president of the Taiwanese Canadian Association, and I feel it is my duty to initiate this meaningful campaign. Therefore, I hope to help more people understand that Taiwan’s name is simply Taiwan—not the Republic of China (ROC), and certainly not the People’s Republic of China (PRC).
For a long time, international confusion over Taiwan’s name has undermined Taiwan’s global standing and affected the identity of its people. Many misunderstand the relationship between Taiwan and China, and in international settings, Taiwan is often referred to by incorrect names. This not only distorts the truth but also hurts the feelings of the Taiwanese people.
Taiwan has its own independent government, a vibrant democratic system, and established trade relations with countries around the world. We have our own cultural traditions and social values, all of which deserve recognition and respect from the international community. The people of Taiwan have long been striving for self-determination and international recognition, and we should not be mislabeled or confused with another country.
I sincerely hope everyone will support this petition so that more international media, governments, and citizens will recognize Taiwan by its rightful name. We need your voice to join this global campaign and let the world know that Taiwan is not the Republic of China, and certainly not China.
Please sign this petition to support Taiwan’s name rectification movement. Together, let us work for the future of Taiwan.
